52@40
Subject Tires Approaching
the conclusion of the second week of his overly ambitious 52@40 project,
Scott Sayre is starting to feel the test of his own devices. "I've
really enjoyed it so far, however these writing assignments are slow.
I guess this is why I'm not a writer." said Sayre, sitting
in front of a laptop at a Dunn Brothers Coffee shop in South Minneapolis,
10:30 Friday night. Trying to decipher pages of scribbled notes in a
tiny black note book, Scott is still working on transcribing the second
of the two interviews he conducted with AARP members the week before. Scott has faced a number of logistical obstacles this week, including the birth of his new nephew Elliot on Wednesday. He explained, "I knew that the unexpected weekly events, emotional and physical traumas were going to be the most challenging aspects of this project. This last week has just given me a tiny taste of challenges that lie in the 50 weeks ahead. Not that I'm expecting any more babies " he laughed. Scott worked with Kris and Roger Sayre, the project's curators, to try to predict the potentially challenging events such as travel and business obligations over the next year. |
The curators considered those events when laying out Scott's weekly assignments. "We also talked about having some back-ups or alternatives if the going gets to be impossible. I'm really hoping we won't have to go there." Anxious to get back to the task at hand, Scott turns back to his laptop which resembles a Battleship game from the 1960's as it butts up against Kris's on the other side of the small table. And as the keys again begin to rattle he adds "Can't wait to see what's in that envelope tomorrow." We'll all just have to wait and see. |
